BOONDOGGLE, (bo?on?dô?g?l): A boondoggle is a project that objectively wastes time and money, yet is often continued due to extraneous policy motivations.
The Inaugural Great KBUT Boondoggle went off with a bang on Sunday, June 12, with 14 teams vying for the $500 cash prize. A tight race saw the Beckwith Brickworks team take the title, answering 22 out of the 26 questions. THANK YOU to all the players and sponsors- $900 was raised for KBUT and a great time was had by all. Check out the question pages to see what the players were up against, and we will see you in 2013!
When: Saturday, November 10, from 10am-4pm (you’ll never waste time better…)
Where: all over the upper Gunnison valley, but mainly on KBUT’s airwaves
1. to provide an interactive community-wide experience
2. raise money for KBUT Community Radio
3. to have fun and win cash money!
Who: hopefully everybody
TEAMS: Local businesses will sign up to sponsor teams at $100 per team. Owners do not have to participate in the Boondoggle, but just put the money up and leave the rest up to interested players. There is no limit to the number of teams, nor number of people on each team. As a business commits to sponsoring a team (and thus getting their name read an almost infinite amount of times on the radio that day) KBUT will have team sign up sheets in our offices at 508 Maroon.
THE CONTEST: Any and all interested players will meet at KBUT at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 12. At 10 a.m. the first trivia question is read on the air, posted on this site and texted to players with a time limit. (e.g. “QUESTION 1; How many PO boxes are there in the CB Elk Ave post office? You have 10 minutes to text and submit on this website the correct answer.) We then tally the correct answer and keep a running total of team scores. Each team that answers correctly receives the points for that question; harder questions are worth more points. Some questions will be google-able, but with a quicker deadline or less points. There will be a mix of stay-at-home trivia and so-called “action questions” like the example above.
Questions can be answered via text message, or submitted via this website.
There is also the possibility of having a few questions where teams have to bring something to KBUT physically (like a pound of human hair?) The sky’s the limit!
AFTER PARTY: After the Boondoggle is over, we’ll have a party at Montanya’s where the cash and prizes will be awarded!
