How do I prepare for such an event?

BOONDOGGLE, (bo?on?dô?g?l): A boondoggle is a project that objectively wastes time and money, yet is often continued due to extraneous policy motivations.

The Great KBUT Boondoggle is a combination trivia contest/scavenger hunt that will be coordinated over the airwaves of KBUT in Gunnison County.

Basics: The Boondoggle will be a collection of wide-ranging queries that will send your team from one end of Crested Butte to the other, with several questions being “live” at the same time. So, flexibility and teamwork will be key for those who wish to dominate.

When you register to play, please indicate a specific team you’d like to be on. If you and a group of friends wish to be teammates, please let us know, and we’ll keep you together!

Organize your team: Questions will require both physical searching and plumbing the depths of your knowledge of local and worldwide subjects, so organizing teammates is the first challenge. Depending on how many players you have, you might designate half as the “mobile unit” and the other half working the interwebs (having a computer close at hand). Or, you might have three people on bicycle in Crested Butte and the rest working reference materials. You might have 25 players on bikes, one at a computer and one at the bar. There is no limit to number of players on your team, so recruit somebody with a computer or an enormous brain! The Boondoggle will be broadcast live to the world, so keep that in mind. Do you have a night owl friend in Dubai who has nothing better to do? Call them!

Organize your resources: Do you have -a bike? -a car? -hiking boots? -an internet connection? -sources of local history? -smart phone? -dumb luck? You’ll need all of these in order to be competitive. Plan ahead to cultivate your knowledge base. Many questions will require quick answers, so be prepared with any reference materials you might need.
